Avenue of Flags in the Dayton Daily News

Join your neighbors in showing your patriotic American spirit this season.

The Avenue of Flags is a patriotic community service program designed to support the many philanthropic activities sponsored by the Dor-Wood Optimist Club of Kettering. On the following five national holidays, we will mount a large 3' x 5' American flag on a 10' flagpole in front of your home or business:

We will deliver and place your flag (within 15" of the curb) at dawn and retrieve it at dusk. You are not responsible for storing the flag or replacing the flag should it be damaged or stolen.

How much does it cost to subscribe?

The cost is only $40 per year (just $8 per holiday)! You can subscribe in one of two ways, as explained to the right.

Who will benefit from the proceeds of this program?

All proceeds will be used for needs-based projects in Kettering, such as the Kettering Backpack Program. We also support many local organizations that offer services to benefit the youth of our community.

Who is eligible to participate in the Avenue of Flags?

BREAKING NEWS! We recently expanded the Avenue of Flags program to all residents of Kettering, Ohio!

We intend to expand the geographical area for Avenue of Flags each year. If you live in an area where it is not yet offered, please check the map periodically.

Let us know if you'd like to see Avenue of Flags in your neighborhood!

The Centerville Noon Optimist Club and the Springboro Optimist Club proudly sponsor Avenue of Flags in their respective cities. Please visit their web sites or Optimist International for more information.

How are the flags installed?

Prior to Memorial Day, we will come to your yard and drive a mount into the ground within 15" of the curb, careful to avoid any sprinkler systems or pet electric fence systems. (Once installed, it will be level with the ground, and not visible from the street.) We will make a small mark on your curb so we can quickly locate and install the flagpole on the morning of each holiday.
